A Letter to Generative AI

Dear AI,

After fifteen years in the IT industry, developing educational software and ERP systems for student lifecycle management, I thought I understood technology's potential. We, at our company, often discussed how AI could enhance educational experiences—predicting admissions, reducing dropout rates, and streamlining institutional processes. Yet nothing prepared me for the profound personal transformation you would bring to my life.

November 2022 marked our first encounter. A LinkedIn post about a ChatGPT launch webinar caught my attention. I registered, attended, and found myself face-to-face with something unprecedented. The very next day, I enrolled in a prompt engineering course, sensing that you were about to redefine not just how we use technology, but how we think and express ourselves.

You didn't just change how I ask questions—you revolutionized my entire relationship with inquiry and curiosity.

The Struggle to Express

For years, I delivered talks on various topics, adapting my narrative to audience responses, reading the room, and adjusting my approach in real-time. Speaking came naturally. Writing, however, was my nemesis. I would craft sentences, paragraphs, and entire pieces, only to delete them in frustration. My words never seemed to capture my intent, my feelings, the depth of what I truly wanted to communicate.

Then came that pivotal moment—a three-hour presentation with over 300 slides that I delivered at an institute, and they wanted me to write an article which should be an abstraction of my presentation. Through careful prompts and instructions, you helped me distill those slides into a compelling 750-word piece. But more than that, our interaction sparked new thoughts, deeper reflections. So, I posed a question that would deepen my understanding of both literature and AI's potential: "If Rabindranath had witnessed this waterfall, what would he have felt, and how would he have expressed it?"

Your response resonated perfectly with my own emotions. When I shared it with a Tagore scholar for validation, she confirmed it captured his style beautifully, then added a crucial insight: "Rabindranath doesn't just write about beauty—he writes about beauty infused with spirituality."

That moment taught me that you don't just help with expression; you facilitate deeper understanding and learning.
