Our Mother: The Chief Architect of Our Career
Reflecting on a unique family dynamic, this post honors a mother’s visionary dedication to her children’s success. Through prioritizing education, language proficiency, and self-reliance, she empowered her three children to achieve professional excellence. This heartfelt tribute highlights how her unwavering guidance and foresight became the foundation for their life achievements.
In the Indian family system, parents generally have different roles. While mothers play a leading role in imparting values and establishing life principles to their children, fathers assist in career development and professional guidance. However, the situation in our home was somewhat different. Here, our father taught us the right way to live and the values of humanity, while our mother played an extremely important role in our career development.
We are three siblings - two brothers and one sister. The invaluable contribution our mother made to our career development is truly challenging to express in words. This is a humble attempt to highlight her contribution through the efforts she made and the guidance she provided.
Unwavering Dedication to Education
Our mother's dedication to education was exemplary. After marriage, she completed her studies and obtained a graduation degree. Subsequently, she attended regular college to earn a Bachelor of Library Science degree and eventually completed her post-graduation as well. Her struggle and determination taught us the true importance of education and the dedication required for it.
Development of Language Skills
Our early education was in Hindi medium in Madhya Pradesh. However, our mother's foresight made her realize how crucial English language proficiency was for career development. Therefore, she instilled in us the habit of learning five new English words daily and using them practically from childhood. To further improve our English, she subscribed to an English newspaper from Nagpur, which reached our city a day late.
Culture of Reading and Learning
Mother understood very well the important place that excellent reading habits and beautiful handwriting hold in personality development. Therefore, she enrolled us in library membership and instilled the habit of regular study. She also taught us beautiful handwriting. To enhance our general knowledge, she developed our habit of listening to English news on the radio. Due to these visionary initiatives of hers, I was able to complete my B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. and achieve a respectable position in my career.
Story of Determination and Success
Despite being extremely talented, my younger brother could not focus completely on his studies in the initial phase. After completing a diploma in Mechanical Engineering, he got a government job. However, our mother understood the limitations of a diploma. She was fully convinced that proper career development was not possible with just a diploma. Therefore, she pressured my younger brother to pursue a part-time B.E., even after his marriage, and also to complete an MBA. The result of her determination is visible today - my younger brother is working as a Senior Manager in a prestigious Central Government company.
Teaching Independence and Self-Reliance
At one time, due to my father's job, my younger brother and sister lived in another city. When they came home during the holidays, our mother instructed both of them not to travel together. She believed that my sister should learn to face society alone. Therefore, both would come home by different trains. The result of our mother's farsighted thinking is clearly visible today. Our younger sister is now a successful entrepreneur who has the courage to travel alone domestically and internationally for business purposes. The confidence and fearlessness she displays is certainly the result of our mother's teachings.

Today, when we look at our achievements, we clearly realize that all this is the result of our mother's tireless efforts, proper guidance, and the right ways of living life and human values that father taught us.
